Is Gluten the cause of IBS Symptoms?

Is gluten the cause of IBS symptoms?

In this double-blind, placebo-controlled randomised trial, forty-nine IBS patients were randomly assigned to the placebo and/or intervention group. Patients in the intervention group received 5 grams/day of gluten powder with a low FODMAP diet, while the placebo group received 5 gram of rice flour as a placebo, with a low FODMAP diet.

What did it reveal???

Significant improvement was observed in both groups, showing that the exacerbation of IBS symptoms seems to be due to the fructan content of the diet, and not related to the gluten content for most patients.

Unless you have celiac disease, gluten doesn't seem to exacerbate symptoms.
